Project Storm. Lost a little weight today. It was a nice day out in Renville, so the guys did the first phase of disassembly.

At this stage we can better assess the parts and pieces we need to order for the rest of the build. Eventually it will all come off - leaving us with a naked chassis that will be stripped, sealed, and painted.

The complete process takes between 800-1600 hours over a period of about a year.

I always enjoy disassembly day. Mostly because re-assembly day takes 11 months and 30 days.

Meet Skeletor. A 1996 Land Rover Defender 300Tdi.

This Land Rover Defender 110 recently underwent a complete mechanical restoration – including engine refresh, gearbox refurbishment, chassis preservation, and overall major service.

This is a rare Defender we have for sale. We've listed it at $45,000, which is less than what we have into the project, but we feel is a really reasonable price given the mechanical condition.

This is one of those unicorn Defenders that are mechanically solid, great chassis (we replaced the entire back half of the chassis to make sure it was solid), clean interior, and rips down the highway. Cosmetically she is very good looking, but not a show truck. She had been re-resprayed in Ford Gunmetal Grey, but it wasn’t a perfect job.

A few items to note:

New Wheels and Tyres (x5)
New NAS Style Rear Bumper
New Rear Ladders
New Fuel Tank and Sender Unit
New Fuel Lifter Pump
New Timing Belt
New Water Pump
New Head Gasket
New Starter
New Alternator
Tuned Injection Pump
New Radiator
New Intercooler
New Front Discs
New From Brake Calipers
New Rear Discs
New Rear Calipers
Front Bearings
Rear Bearings
New Shocks
New Springs
New Bushings
Replacement Half Chassis
Underseal Coating to Protect

The interior is a very clean original Neptune Fabric, including the rare centre seat in the front.

The exterior features:

New Door Seals (x5)
New Outer Window Seals
New Inner Window Seals
New Front Mud Flaps
New Rear Mud Flaps
Front Wing Checker Plate Protection
Lower Sill Checker Plate Protection
Rear Tub Checker Plate Protection
New Door Handles
New Door Locks
Front A Bar
Front A Bar LED Lights

If you’re interested in this project something similar, feel free to reach out and connect with us.

Available for Adoption. 1996 Land Rover Defender 90 300tdi. 100k original miles. Great physical and mechanical shape.

Would love to send this to a good home. Otherwise it will become a custom restoration project. It would be a shame to disassemble her, however. So we decided to put her up as a Preservation Class Defender for a couple of days to see if anyone wants her.

Will come with complete mechanical service DM for details.

Estrella has become quite fond of joining the kind folks at @nordlyslodgingco in Frederic, Wisconsin (about an hour and a half from the Twin Cities).

It’s a wonderful private property, featuring two amazing cabins on a private lake. It’s like having a bit of heaven to yourself.

We sent Estrella back up there over the weekend - now that the trails are a little less quick-sandy. I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a lovely time. Far less muddy, but I suppose that’s ok too.

Our hope is to send a Defender up there every so often for people to enjoy out in the country and on the trails. Let us know if you’re interested.

Check out the Nordlys Instagram and follow them - they will have occasional last minute bookings that make for a perfect getaway.

We have had this Land Rover 110 V8 County Wagon in storage for a couple years now. We’ve been trying to decide if we should restore it or keep her as a Preservation Series.

It has an all original interior that is in exceptional shape. She runs and drives great, with the nice purr of the V8.

Any thoughts? What should we do with her?

This is Rally Truck. One of the originals in the Bishop+Rook family. She had been sitting for well over a year with a V8 motor that was more like a V5.5 motor. The guys in Renville spent some extra time at the shop this week to get her back up and running again. The purr of the V8 is something else. Granted, it might cost me $200 to drive her back to Minneapolis. Worth every gallon.

This is Juliette. She was a factory original Arles Blue Land Rover Defender 90 County Wagon we recently rebuilt into lovely little soft-to.

It took about a year and about 800 hours to complete this build. The original plan was to do an external respray and some light mechanical work, but as we dug in deeper to the project we decided to take it all the way across the finish line. We believe we made the right choice after getting the opportunity to drive her around on one of the hottest days of the summer so far. An absolute delight to drive.

We build an equal number of Right hand drive vehicles to left hand drive. We firmly believe they are both equally as amazing, but the RHD builds always put a bigger smile on our faces. In addition, they tend to draw a lot of curious interest and friendly conversations.

What do you think of the build?

LizardSkin application day. Sharing because it’s a cool process - even if it’s not in the right order. For once, it’s not my fault for missing one of these details.

We have a note in our build contracts that says all updates and project details must be sent via email. It’s mostly because my brain is incapable of remembering the thousands of details that go into each build.

In this end it’s about doing the job right for the project. But also being kind to Andrew and Tom as they age and lose their minds.

Meet Amalia. She was born in England, but spent her life living in the dry climate of Spain.

When people think about a Land Rover Defender they think of Green and White. It’s iconic. It’s timeless. And it’s beautiful.

We decided to keep Amalia as a Preservation Class Defender. She’s currently going through our extensive certification process where we make sure the Defender is 100% mechanically sorted and ready for adventure.

What would you do to finish her up?

The Bishop+Rook team continues work on Project Toto.

On the last episode of Defender Rescue, we introduced you to Project Toto – a 1987 Land Rover 110 we recently acquired. In reviewing the paperwork that came with the vehicle, we uncovered a very interesting provenance.
While born in Solihull, England, this particular Land Rover spent the first part of its life roaming West Africa.

Based on a diplomatic mission in Lagos, Nigeria, her first caretakers put on nearly 100,000 KM over a period of 5-years exploring the region before Overlanding home with a group of fellow Land Rover driving diplomats.

With such a documented history, we decided it was best that we try to preserve as much of her originality as possible. This episode will feature the beginnings of this process.

The team from our Salisbury, England workshop took the afternoon to explore the area around the workshop in a pair of Defenders we recently acquired from a hot air balloon company.

As part of our assessment process, we have to see how they perform in the wild, right?

We acquired Project Toto through a third-party classic automobile broker in the Cotswolds who represented a mysterious and private seller of this Land Rover One Ten. We were intrigued by the mystery, but even more so about finding an original one-owner Land Rover that had such a unique and original story.

At Bishop+Rook, we're particularly interested in Land Rovers that have unique histories and provenance. This series will follow one of these vehicles: Project Toto.

A lot of people ask us what it is like to drive a Land Rover Defender on a daily basis.

We decided this would be a good opportunity to shoot a little film of the guys from the UK showing us what it's like to drive around the areas surrounding Salisbury, England workshop while putting some test miles on Project Enduring.

This Defender tour features the Newton Tony area of Wiltshire, England. It's a village with about 380 habitants - about 70 miles west of London - or 4 miles from the shop.

As you can see, the Defender handles quite well in the stop-and-go traffic of the big city, including navigating the hazards of sharing the road with heavy equipment - such as farm tractors.
A keen eye will spot the chicken crossing the road. Obviously heading to an important meeting.

This day was clearly a stressful adventure for the guys. We're fortunate they survived and made it back in one piece, deserving an extra break this particular afternoon.

We hand build each of the Defenders and take pride in our quality process.
