This is C.T. She’s heading to the port next week to make her way to the Minneapolis workshop for delivery. A local customer, so we will be able to enjoy her hanging around the city.
I never thought I would love a bold color on a Defender. I was wrong. I love this so much.
This is a Defender 110 High Capacity Pick-up Truck we have on consignment for a local customer. It was a complete nut-and-bolt restoration. One of the nicest paint jobs on a Defender you will ever see.
Our series of Bishop+Rook Certified Defenders go through an extensive mechanical refurbishment process. We review and refresh nearly every mechanical component - from brakes and cooling to electrical and fuel. The engine is given a full service: timing belt, water pump, head gasket, valve adjustment, starter, alternator, lifter pump, injectors, etc. Then tuned for the drivers preference.
We’re slowly going though our collection of pre-restoration donor trucks that have been in storage most of the winter.
Spring always brings a lot of inquiries for projects “available now.” While most of our stuff is custom built over a period of 12+ months, we often come across a donor truck that deserves to be saved.

YouTube Video UCbOePCCYT0C9S5lTe1CHSjA_ja6jP2WI6Z4 We acquired Project Toto through a third-party classic automobile broker in the Cotswolds who represented a mysterious and private seller of this Land Rover One Ten. We were intrigued by the mystery, but even more so about finding an original one-owner Land Rover that had such a unique and original story.

At Bishop+Rook, we're particularly interested in Land Rovers that have unique histories and provenance. This series will follow one of these vehicles: Project Toto.

A lot of people ask us what it is like to drive a Land Rover Defender on a daily basis.

We decided this would be a good opportunity to shoot a little film of the guys from the UK showing us what it's like to drive around the areas surrounding Salisbury, England workshop while putting some test miles on Project Enduring.

This Defender tour features the Newton Tony area of Wiltshire, England. It's a village with about 380 habitants - about 70 miles west of London - or 4 miles from the shop.

As you can see, the Defender handles quite well in the stop-and-go traffic of the big city, including navigating the hazards of sharing the road with heavy equipment - such as farm tractors.
A keen eye will spot the chicken crossing the road. Obviously heading to an important meeting.

This day was clearly a stressful adventure for the guys. We're fortunate they survived and made it back in one piece, deserving an extra break this particular afternoon.

The crew from Salisbury England took one of our latest Defender builds out for some road testing on the farm.

We hand build each of the Defenders and take pride in our quality process.

With the increasing popularity of Land Rover Defenders in the United States, few are aware of some of the later model upgrades that took place at the end of the Defender production.

Most US-Eligible Defenders continue to be in the early years of production, with 200tdi and 300tdi engine packages. Later models saw few cosmetic changes, but quite a few mechanical ones.

Is one better than the other? Depends on your perspective. Early diesel Defenders were 100% mechanical, making them extremely reliable. Later ones include more creature comforts and performance enhancements.

Once mechanical elements check out and we've done a rolling chassis test, we start to carefully assemble the body panels to create the shell of the build. We check all door alignment gaps, panel gaps, and seals for perfect fit.

Every Bishop+Rook Land Rover Defender restoration flows through a simple build process. It is not rigid as we would like, as no two projects are the same. We've developed a system that not only chronicles the entire restoration but also ensures we are checking off on the build during critical stages in the project.

Our Stage III testing point comes after we've finished up most of the chassis and mechanical work. We prefer to test these systems while the rest of the body is off because it gives us great access and transparency into the components should they need adjusting. A mechanical tweak or fix at this stage will save hours of yoga-like maneuvers if the body panels were attached.
