Strip Down

The disassembly process of a vintage Land Rover Defender in preparation for restoration is a meticulous undertaking that involves careful assessment of each part. Beginning with the exterior, the body panels, including the front fenders, doors, hood, and rear quarter panels, are methodically removed, ensuring they are cataloged for future reference.

Each step of the disassembly process contributes to a thorough assessment of the vintage Land Rover Defender’s condition, laying the groundwork for its subsequent restoration journey.

Chassis Restoration

The core of the restoration process begins by carefully disassembling the chassis, inspecting each component, and identifying areas that require repair or replacement.Rust, corrosion, and wear are common issues that demand skilled hands to restore the structural integrity of the chassis. If our case, the chassis was in near-factory condition, but we still undergo a process meticulous cleaning, stripping, prepping, priming, and painting bring the chassis back to its former glory.

Mechanical

There are a variety of mechanical components of a Land Rover Defender restoration.  The most essential elements are the engine, gearbox, transfer case, and axles.  These are all stripped down and taken to our machining workshop to assess what needs to be done for the next stage of the refurbishment.  The engine and gearbox are typically completely rebuilt, with the axles and transfer cases requiring extensive service.

Chassis Restoration

We strip the chassis down to bare metal, correct any imperfections, and then reseal with with an epoxy coating and then paint in black with a heavy duty chassis paint.  Once cured, we begin the intricate process of re-assembly of the chassis and suspension components.

Paint + Body

Each body panel is painted individually, inside and out, to ensure any color change is complete and no surfaces are left to the elements.  As each component is finished in the body shop, we slowly begin the re-assembly process – ensuring not to scratch or dent the new panels.
