Heritage Series Range Rover Classic- V8 - LHD

Pre-Restoration

This Range Rover Classic came to us through an enthusiast in England, who had originally brought it back from France as a driving restoration project. Finding a solid, unmolested, donor vehicle like this is becoming increasingly difficult. While a little tatty in areas, the overall foundation will serve as a great base for restoration.

Assessment

Disassembly of a vintage Land Rover in preparation for preservation is a meticulous undertaking that involves careful assessment of each part. Beginning with the exterior, the body panels, including the front fenders, doors, hood, are methodically removed, ensuring they are cataloged for future reference.  But for the most part, it’s two solid days of taking stuff apart.

Mechanical

There are a variety of mechanical components of a Land Rover restoration.  The most essential elements are the engine, gearbox, transfer case, and axles.  These are all stripped down and taken to our machining workshop to assess what needs to be done for the next stage of the refurbishment.  The engine and gearbox are completely rebuilt, with the axles and transfer cases requiring extensive service. In this case, we will be upgrading the donor vehicles’ engine to a 4.6L petrol, which will be installed in the US workshop.

Disassembly

During the strip-down process, the team gets a better look at the hidden details of the vehicle. We take careful notes of parts and pieces that need replacing, components that can be refurbished, and parts that should be tossed in the bin.

Body Shell

The body was completely stripped down, with every nut, bolt, and bracket removed.  We send each Range Rover Classic body out for acid dipping and media blasting to remove any rust or hidden issues before sealing with epoxy primer and beginning any necessary repair work.

Body Panels

One of the unique things about vintage Range Rover Classics is the way the body panels bolt to the body shell.  Once they are removed, the paintwork can begin almost immediately.  Each body panel will be inspected and replaced or repaired as required before a multi-stage painting process begins.
