Heritage Series Land Rover Defender 110 - 300Tdi

Pre-Restoration

This Land Rover Defender 110 was sourced from our collection in Spain, after discovering the first donor truck sourced from Lithuania turned out to be a structural nightmare.  Rather than spend hundreds of hours on unnecessary and unproductive chassis repair, we decided to start fresh with a new donor vehicle we knew was in better condition.

Assessment + Disassembly

Before full disassembly of a vintage Land Rover in preparation for restoration, we go through a careful assessment of each component of the vehicle. Once this assessment is completed, we begin with disassembly, starting with the exterior, the body panels, including the front fenders, doors, hood, are methodically removed, ensuring they are cataloged for future reference.  But for the most part, it’s two solid days of taking stuff apart.

Mechanical

There are a variety of mechanical components of a Land Rover restoration.  The most essential elements are the engine, gearbox, transfer case, and axles.  These are all stripped down and taken to our machining workshop to assess what needs to be done for the next stage of the refurbishment.  The engine and gearbox are completely rebuilt, with the axles and transfer cases requiring extensive service.

Disassembly

During the strip-down process, the team gets a better look at the hidden details of the vehicle. We take careful notes of parts and pieces that need replacing, components that can be refurbished, and parts that should be tossed in the bin.
