Introducing: “Project Skye”
Last year we had the honor of acquiring a beautiful maintained 1992 Land Rover Defender 110 from a hot air balloon operator Stuart Seager, of Champagne Flights in the UK. We fell in love with the story of the truck – having only been kept by two previous owners – both of which were hot air balloon pilots.
In her previous life, this little Defender was used to haul the flight basket and equipment out to the field and ferry passengers to and from the loading and landing zones. Turns out that it’s pretty practical to have a vehicle that can go pretty much anywhere. Balloons tend to need a lot of field space to land.
When she arrived at the Bishop+Rook workshop in Minneapolis, she still had the original livery used to promote the business in Buckinghamshire. We drove her around like this for the better part of 6 months before finally setting about the refresh process.
While maintained really well over the years, having just over 100,000 original miles, we thought she needed a little freshening up a bit. We went through her from bumper to cross member, maintaining the unique originality of the vehicle, while preparing her for a second life in America.
Today, she is unveiled to the world – looking as beautiful as ever. Ready to conquer the fields and roads of America.
We named her “Skye”, reflecting her history of supporting balloon flight, but also taking inspiration from the Scottish and English roots if the name meaning: adventurous.

We have over 13,500 square foot of Defender restoration workshop space and can pretty much do anything – as long as it’s a Defender.
